This was the beginning. It was November 2008.  Bog filters have been around for centuries. There are many variations in design which have changed from then until now. Most Aquaponics systems water from the top. We water from the bottom up! Cleaning the filter is not required very often. For Instance, the filter pictured here was cleaned for the first time in 2012. The tank in the background is 6000 gallons. The filter size is 6 feet in diameter and 24 inches tall. In relationship, this filter is 10% of the surface area of the tank. (filter= 57 cubic feet) & (Tank= 600 square feet).  The plants inside the filter are canna lillies.  We even grew bananas in the filter one year.  In 2018 we improved the system. We have only one moving part to operate the system. The building cost is drmatically reduced!  Fast forward to 2019. Each system now consists of raised beds,  automatic bottom watering, all natural fertilizer, little or no weeding, easy harvest, & no till planting.
